About Steven:
Steven is a missionary in Chiapas, Mexico with his wife Grace. He is helping develop discipleship material in Spanish to aid the churches in the small pueblitos in Chiapas as well as distributing gospel material. He helps to provide clean water through the installation of water filters, as well as cleaner air for the indigenous by helping them to get vented stoves. He enjoys working with children and young adults. His heart is that young people would love Christ with all their heart and remain focused on Him and not on the cares of this world. He has worked in many different children’s ministries including several Children’s Institutes, week long children’s programs at homeschool conventions, and one year as a Character Coach at an elementary school. He has worked with Global Encounters in Colombia, Peru, and Mexico. He was home schooled, attended the International Alert Academy, worked as a assistant project manager for a high end custom home builder, and has his Commercial pilots license (SEL) with instrument endorsement. Steven enjoys volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, football, soccer, traveling, learning Spanish, martial arts training, giving people rides in planes, and cracking jokes now and then.
About Grace:
Grace was born and raised in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas Mexico. She began to learn English at age 13 when she started helping missionaries that worked in Mexico. Before long she was fluent in English and was helping translate for groups that came down. She has also worked in the States with various ministries. She has worked at the International Alert Academy in Big Sandy, TX for a total of 3 years and attended the STEP program while there. She is a certified Character Coach and worked in the public schools teaching character education while at the Oklahoma City training center for 2 months. She also worked at IBLP headquarters in Chicago in the International Department for 6 months translating materials. A book she has helped translate with her twin sister Gabriela Ozuna is Making Brothers and Sisters Best Friends by Sarah, Stephen and Grace Mally. She has also helped translate some of The Commands of Christ series booklets for IBLP. She has also worked as a translator helping with Global Encounters teams to Chiapas Mexico. Grace still lives in San Cristobal with her husband Steven Curry working as full time missionaries developing discipleship and evangelistic materials as well as working with the indigenous peoples of southern Mexico. She enjoys photography, translating, cooking, basketball, reading, playing games and loves to travel.
Steven’s Perspective on International Ministry:
“When I think of going on a short term missions trip, I see the wonderful opportunity that God gives us to minister to people who we would otherwise never come in contact with. I especially enjoy working alongside Christian brothers and sisters who don’t speak my language but have the same desire to serve Christ. I also think of how vital it is that I don’t go with the mentality of doing works for Christ, but instead, let Jesus Christ do His work through me. Not by my abilities and “goodness” but simply Christ. That’s what we are here to share: Christ alone!
“It is so exciting to see Christ work through team members in different ways as they make themselves available for His service with whole-hearted surrender to His will and desires. Some of the most fruitful times for me have been when I was not really prepared with something to say but God gave me something to share. It’s amazing when you take a step back you see it was only Christ Who could have done the work. It is so awesome that God could use “little old me” to give a message that I had no idea I was going to give. God is sooo good! It is essential for all of those who seek to minister for Christ to draw continually closer to Him so that we can effectively be a channel of His love.”
