Shantytown Ministry and More
If you ever dreamed of sharing the Gospel in far away places, in settings very different from home, this is the trip for you. In a country with an amazing history, widespread poverty, and very few Christians, there is an intense hunger for the truth and amazing openness to the Gospel. Sign up for the team and you will be joining an adventure as you work alongside vibrant, dedicated Peruvian Christians to share Christ’s love in the cities, shantytowns, hospitals, prisons, and streets of Peru. Team Activities
This team has the amazing opportunity to work in Ventanilla, a shantytown on the outskirts of Lima. In an area that goes on for miles, filled with tens of thousands of people living in incredible poverty, there are children who need love and training. We will be sharing the Gospel, teaching them Biblical character, and helping them with practical needs. These kids are so hungry for love!
After our work in Ventanilla, we will be moving on to Cusco, the mountain capital city of the Inca Empire. We will also be teaching children here. In addition, we are hoping to serve in orphanages, prisons, or hospitals and meet practical, as well as spiritual, needs. Opportunities for street witnessing will probably also be a part of the schedule.
In addition to the times of ministry, we have an optional sidetrip planned to one of the most famous sights in the world: Machu Picchu! A visit to these mountain ruins is an experience you will never forget.
Training
Team members will receive training in the children’s program curriculum, coaching in sharing the Gospel, and basic instruction in the culture, history, and language of Peru. You will return from this trip with teaching techniques and cross-cultural communication skills you can put to use anywhere. Your spiritual life will also be challenged and deepened as you see God at work, learn to trust Him in new ways, and experience the joys and burdens of Christian ministry.
Team Leadership
This trip sponsored by CollegePlus! - a Christian coaching service that helps students earn their accredited college degrees while studying from home. Team leaders will be a mix of Global Encounters and CollegePlus staff members, including Daniel Cavanaugh, Elizabeth Fox and Christie Ballmann. Pastor Alberto Salazar will act as the team’s host in Peru.
