Can a few weeks or even a few hours change another person’s life? Yes! Imagine teaching hundreds of children every night for a week. Class rooms are overcrowded, translation is hard, you’re personally, spiritually and physically expended. You wonder if even one child in the room is seeing Jesus through the chaos, until a little girl, dark eyes filled with tears, walks up to you. “Thank you for teaching me about Jesus through the creation craft” she says as she offers a present she’s made just for you. You give her a hug and thank God that He can work through you to touch lives with Himself. Long-term impact can be achieved in a short period of time when someone genuinely sees Christ in you. Leave your comfort zone behind and join Team Ecuador 2012!
In Ecuador, your entire day, every day, becomes an opportunity to demonstrate what you teach as you live life with the Ecuadorians. The first week of the trip the team will be spent working with two churches in Quito, putting on kids’ programs. The second and third weeks will be based in Esmeraldas, a coastal city overflowing with palm trees and bananas. While there, the team will teach a children’s program, work with and train local children’s ministry workers, and even help with a kids’ summer camp. The children’s programs are a fun and energetic way to teach practical, Biblical character qualities and to help children get to know God better through skits, stories, crafts and games. Plans also include youth ministry and teaching in schools, orphanages, and anywhere else God opens a door for us to share His love with others.
Team members will receive training in the children’s program curriculum, coaching in sharing the Gospel, and basic instruction in the culture, history, and language of Ecuador. You will return from this trip with a toolbox of ministry and cross-cultural communication skills that you can put to use anywhere. As you show Christ to others, you will also find that your relationship with Him will be challenged and strengthened. As you teach others of His love, your own experience of Him will take on whole new dimensions.
Daniel Cavanaugh, Elizabeth Fox, and Micah Cavanaugh will be leading this team. All of the GE team leaders love international ministry, love mentoring the team members, and more than anything else, love Jesus.
