Colombia

Colombia

For many years this country had the stigma of “dangerous, drugs, homicide guerrillas….” Not the greatest vacation destination or missionary hotspot! With reports of kidnappings and drug trafficking, many people have stayed away from this hurting land. In the last five to ten years however, exciting things have been taking place as this country is preparing to receive the Gospel in ways that would have been impossible before. God is opening doors as the government has retaken much of the country from the insurgents that terrorized the nationals for so long. Bogota is now considered as safe to visit as any other South American capital. Now you can have a VIP seat to participate in God’s plan to reach these people!

Heavily influenced by the Spanish, who ruled them for centuries, Colombia, like many South American countries, practices Catholicism. This has created a culture with a high level knowledge about God, but many individuals with a weak to non-existent personal relationship with the Savior.

In the past, being a true, committed Christian was like wearing a target on your back in some areas. With the slow crumbling of the drug trade and guerrilla insurgents, fear is losing its stranglehold on the people. Christians are now able to boldly proclaim Christ and give help to their hurting nation. With the magnitude of neediness, paired with greater freedom and safety, Global Encounters works to help Colombian churches providing training for parents, teens, and children that will enable even greater impact and effectiveness in reaching the country with the Gospel.

Right now Colombia is ripe for the Gospel. All that is needed are workers for the harvest. Imagine living in fear of death, captivity, robbery . . . . all without Christ! Colombians are eager to hear a message of hope, peace, and joy that comes with living in the Spirit and walking in truth. Get ready for God to do amazing things in Colombia!
