Do you desire to assist others by attending to the physical needs of suffering people along with ministering to their souls? Medical mission work is a wonderful pathway to developing a lasting relationship in showing care while pointing to the Great Physician. This is a tremendous opportunity to help those in need and direct them to the One that will give them lasting security in Christ. Join us today and be part of an amazing adventure to administer physical and spiritual aid to a needy people.
There is little medical knowledge and even fewer medical workers in the jungle, but physical needs and illnesses abound. Activities will involve administering first aid, dispensing antibiotics, treating whatever other medical needs are within the scope of the team’s resources, and providing teaching in dealing with basic medical problems and common health issues. The medical aid could consist of something as simple as applying bandages or as extreme as setting broken bones. In addition to helping with medical needs we will also be installing in-home clean water filtration systems to prevent further waterborne illnesses and possibly helping out with some kids’ programs along the way. By meeting physical needs the team will gain numerous opportunities to demonstrate Christ’s love, live out the gospel, and share His Word directly through conversations and literature distribution.
The team will be working under the direction of a Mexican doctor who is familiar with jungle illnesses. We would like to see each person on the team possessing at least some medical background. Doctors, nurses, paramedics, and EMTs are very welcome! However, if you do not have formal medical training, but have experience that would make you a valuable member of this team or you don’t have any training but are interested in medical missions and would like to get a taste of what is involved, please send us an email explaining your background and/or interests and we will get back to you promptly to let you know if this would be a good fit for the mission trip.
Because dealing with medical problems without the support of a lab or hospital is often very different from the American medical setting, we will also be giving team members training in diagnosing and treating common jungle illnesses.
Christopher Schweickert and Amy Cook will be leading this team. The team will be hosted by Nathan & Julie Terrell and Steven & Grace Curry. A qualified local physician, Dr. Rivas, will provide medical supervision/consultation during clinic. All of them love international ministry, love mentoring the team members, and more than anything else, love Jesus.
