Since 2007, she has had the opportunity to join several Global Encounters teams, working in Peru, Argentina, Colombia, and Mexico, and is planning on working full-time in international missions in the area of Bible translation. In addition to traveling, Amy enjoys learning Spanish, gardening, ice skating, bowling, reading, and spending time with people.
Amy’s Perspective on International Ministry:
Short-term international ministry is one of the most exciting adventures on which a Christian can embark. Seeing God at work in other countries, across language and cultural divides, is an experience that will change anyone’s perspective of God Himself. Whether it is singing praises side-by-side with the national believers, watching a kid’s eyes light up when they realize how much you care about them personally, or kneeling in prayer with someone who wants to give Jesus his life, I have been challenged in my walk with God and gotten to know Him so much better through short-term missions. Though not everyone is called to life-long international ministry, we are all called to share Jesus with our world. I believe that every young person should take advantage of the opportunities provided by short-term mission trips and experience the faith-defining and faith-development they provide. Missions is all about one thing – the glory of God – and that starts by yielding oneself to the Lord, and then going out to build relationships with other people, so that whether it is through reaching the lost or encouraging the national believers, God’s glory is displayed to the world.
